PGE Foundation Awards Albertina Kerr $10,000 for Family Involvement Project

Thursday, July 28, 2011 (Portland, OR) The PGE Foundation — the corporate foundation of Portland General Electric — has  given a $10,000 grant to Albertina Kerr Centers for the Family Involvement Project. The project is designed to keep parents involved in the lives of their children while the child is being treated for mental illness.

The Family Involvement Project benefits every family enrolled in Kerr’s youth and family programs, a total of more than 1,200 in the past year.  Parents are offered the opportunity to be involved in decisions on their child’s care, parent training and advocacy for their child. They also receive referrals to needed services and the opportunity to participate in monthly workshops and support groups. The goal of the project is to help these families become strong and healthy. Research shows that youth do better in treatment when their parents or other family members are involved.
