Albertina Kerr's Port City provides career and social support for adults with developmental disabilities (DD) from Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties in Oregon.

Port City’s roots in the Portland Metro area date back to 1978, five years after the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and twelve years before the American Disabilities Act of 1990 were signed into law, requiring increased employment and empowerment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. Portland area family members and advocates were at the vanguard of that sea change, and established Port City as a means to secure a more promising future for community members with developmental disabilites.

In 2013, Port City became part of Albertina Kerr's community of caring for Oregon's most vulnerable. Port City continues to provide value, enrichment and empowerment to people with developmental disabilities.

Values guide the programs

  • Nurturing creativity creates growth
  • Kindness, acceptance and creativity guide our actions
  • All people have gifts to contribute to the community
  • Community inclusion and integration are vital and necessary
  • Continued learning promotes independence and self-empowerment
  • The holistic development of the individual promotes health and well-being and enhances quality of life

We choose to celebrate individuals’ gifts and abilities.

At Port City, individuals are encouraged to:

  • Explore their dreams and ideas
  • Discover their strengths and abilities
  • Make choices to find purpose, self-expression and self-direction
  • Learn independent living skills
  • Engage with the community

Port City is a place where activity options are many and varied, where individuals’ interests are encouraged. It’s a place where friends gather to be creative and learn, share a joke, and lend support to one another.
